Eternal life sounds appealing to us mortal beings of flesh and blood. However, a vampire’s immortality comes at a high cost. Never again will they watch a beautiful sunrise or feel the warmth of the sun on their skin.

Vampires, although distanced from their humanity, still feel the very human emotions of loss and longing. This piece draws inspiration from Victorian lover’s eye paintings, tiny detailed portraits of an eye often exchanged as tokens of affection or worn in mourning to preserve the memory of someone lost. This vampire’s eye glows with an otherworldly white iris, while deep red tears form and trickle from the canvas.
